Dr. Mark Hollabaugh

Bridge Building Task Force

Dr. Mark Hollabaugh is a retired astronomy and physics professor who could never decide what he wanted to do when he grew up. Mark lives near Grand Marais and is a member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hovland. He taught at St. Olaf College (physics and religion), Augsburg College, the University of Minnesota, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and Normandale Community College. He finally decided to be an ethnoastronomer—someone who is captivated by the role of astronomy in culture, in his case, Native American. Mark is the author of "The Spirit and the Sky: Lakota Visions of the Cosmos" (University of Nebraska Press, 2017). He serves on the National Advisory Council for the Center for Western Studies at Augustana University. Mark, who has been involved in our synod since moving here, is a graduate of Luther Seminary and is available for pulpit supply and educational forums.
